Mike Clark, LPR’s emeritus publisher brought the publication out of its hiatus in 2006 after his career at the Baltimore Sun. He worked to always push his community forward and left a mark on many of those who continue to work behind the scenes at Little Patuxent Review.
Brian England, one of LPR’s longstanding board members remembers Mike in a cherished memory of how his own love for LPR came to be.
“In the 2005 I joined the Baltimore Ethical Society and attended their poetry group meetings once a month. My daughter Sandi knew that I was interested in poetry and bought me a subscription of the LPR for Christmas 2006.
I first met Mike when he delivered the Little Patuxent Review to my place of work BA Auto Care in Columbia. It was the 2nd issue of the revival of the LPR and included “Columbia at 40” in 2007. The LPR started in the 70’s and briefly returned in the 80’s.
For a number of years Mike faithfully bought by the LPR twice a year and in 2014 he asked me to take over leadership of the LPR! He felt my business background might be helpful. I had zero experience in any sort of publishing except for writing for the company newsletter and blog. Mike helped me a lot and now this is my 10th anniversary!”
One of Brian’s favorite works by Mike, one of which was published in Dragonfly, is as follows:
Let’s have a cup of tea
as the sun goes down
so we can remember
the days passed
one after another
that brought us
to this very intensely
quite moment.
-Mike Clark 2024
Mike’s love for the publication continues with all of us as we step into another winter launch in the next few months. We hope to celebrate his life and work as his joy has brought so much to the Howard county community and beyond.

His life was a gift to us that knew him. The “wake” of his passage affected many, and I thank the time I knew him. His Memorial Meeting for Worship at Sandy Spring Meeting was wonderfully held.

I knew Mike far too short. The “wake” of his passage affected everyone who knew him, much to the better. His Memorial Meeting for Worship at Sandy Spring Meeting was memorable.
